Jasper Gems: Samba Club

Cards & connections

Every Wednesday afternoon, laughter and friendly competition fill J Club as the Samba Club gathers for their weekly card game. Samba, a variation of Canasta with a twist of Hand & Foot. It’s more than just a game — members show up to connect, share recommendations for books and movies, and enjoy each other’s company.

The club started when a group of experienced players introduced the game to Jasper neighbors. Since then, it has flourished into a lively, welcoming group with a mix of strategy and social fun. No supplies are needed to join, though some players use card holders to keep their hands organized.

Friendly rivalry with Granville’s Samba Club brings extra excitement to the game. Jasper’s players are proud trophy holders, as seen in the photo, after their last tournament victory.  Their next matchup is just a few months away. The competition will be hosted at J Club giving them home-table advantage to defend their title!
