Jasper’s eagerly anticipated inaugural, community-wide celebration came to fruition on May 12. Residents were more than ready to enjoy a community picnic during their first-ever signature event. Keep reading to find out how the festivities wrapped up. We think you’ll agree that the wait was totally worth it.
Resident keepsake
Jasper households were gifted a Jasper branded picnic blanket so they can continue to enjoy the outside green spaces in the community. These brightly colored picnic blankets can be used for years to come, and we hope to see our families enjoy them often, including at next year’s Legacy Day event.
Wheelhouse
Favorite local band, Wheelhouse, took to the stage playing a mixed genre of iconic tunes from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Families and friends gathered on the J Club’s outdoor spaces to listen and sing along while residents of all ages danced to the beat of classics like “Brickhouse” and “Sweet Home Alabama”.
Wilkinson Courtyard
During one of the band’s set breaks, Marlo Dykeman, Jasper’s Executive Director, announced the naming of the venue – Wilkinson Courtyard. The Wilkinson’s have been a prominent figure in the quad-city area since 1908. As the previous owners of the land that is now Jasper, the naming of the lawn is to honor the land and legacy they built. A historical timeline of the Wilkinson family and their ranches was on display and a permanent plaque will be installed soon.
A community BBQ for the whole family
Thanks to our amazing partners at Superb Food Co., Jasper residents enjoyed a spread of delicious foods. Neighbors sat alongside one another at large community tables or around one of the many firepits to nosh on traditional barbeque fare including chicken, sausages, baked beans, and mac and cheese. Shortly following the meal was a strawberry shortcake treat.
As we reflect on fond memories of Legacy Day, we look forward to learning what the community enjoyed most this year as well as ways to improve the event in the future! Watch your inbox in June for a survey from us – your Community Life team – to provide feedback on life in Jasper.
Keep reliving the moment with this slideshow of photos from the event.
